Amanda Williams, Chief People Officer

Amanda Williams is the Chief People Officer at CHEC, where she leads the People & Education department, overseeing the entire employee lifecycle. Her remit includes shaping the company culture, building capability, and enhancing the people experience to support CHEC’s growth agenda. Amanda also spearheads the Environmental Social Governance (ESG) agenda, working with a passionate cross-functional team to make a positive impact on the world.

With over 30 years of experience in HR across diverse industry sectors and business sizes, Amanda’s passion for people as a company’s greatest asset was ignited early in her career during a graduate management scheme at Wm Morrisons in the 1990s. This led her to specialise in Personnel (as it was then known), becoming a trainee Personnel Manager and subsequently earning her Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) qualification after a year of full-time study. Her career progressed through roles at Carlsberg, Tetley and beyond, culminating in HR Director positions.

A strong advocate for continuous learning, Amanda holds a Masters in CIPD (attained in 2003) and achieved Fellow status of the CIPD in 2006. She is also a qualified Myers Briggs and Strengthscope personality facilitator, and in 2018, she earned an Institute of Leadership & Management Level 7 qualification in Executive Coaching and Mentoring.

Amanda is passionate about the positive impact she has had on the growth and development of individuals and the high-performing HR teams she has built. Her retail background instilled in her valuable lessons applicable across all sectors. She approaches her work with unwavering drive and a positive, can-do attitude, utilising the GROW model of coaching to partner effectively with individuals and business leaders.

CHEC’s ongoing growth and diversification is particularly exciting to Amanda with respect to the workforce, and is driven by a commitment to continuous improvement and putting patients and people at the heart of the organisation. She believes that an engaged, empowered, and values-aligned workforce is crucial to enhancing patient choice and service quality. By leading a compassionate and well-trained team, she aims to directly improve the patient experience.

Outside of her professional life, Amanda considers being a supportive mother to her daughter, and son, her most important role. She juggles their busy schedules with caring for her mother, who has dementia. Amanda is also a Parent Governor at her children’s former primary school, contributing her expertise to ensure effective school management. She enjoys activities which focus on remaining fit and healthy including the gym and rambling which she described as grounding and refreshing.

Amanda’s personal philosophy is to always be her authentic self, remain open to learning and driving positive change, maintain accountability, and find joy in her work.
