Driving Positive Change, CHEC’s Commitment to a Sustainable Future Post Date : August 18, 2025 News 3 minutes read At CHEC, our mission extends beyond providing exceptional healthcare; it encompasses a deep commitment to building a more sustainable and responsible future through our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. In 2024, we solidified this commitment by focusing on 22 ambitious goals across these three crucial pillars, and we’re proud of the significant progress we’ve made. Our Green Journey We are actively working to minimise our environmental footprint. A major achievement has been a 60% reduction in monthly CO2 emissions since September 2024, demonstrating our dedication to combatting climate change. We’ve also made strides in reducing waste, with a 33% decrease in paper purchases in 2024 compared to 2023, and all copier paper has now been switched to recycled paper. Looking ahead, we’re committed to transitioning our fleet, with electric vehicles now live in all regions and a target of having 15 out of 20 Electric Vehicles by the end of June 2025. Our ongoing project aims to enhance stock management, promising significant savings by reducing stock levels and waste. Our Social Impact, Investing in People and Communities Our social goals focus on enhancing patient care, supporting our workforce, and giving back to the community. We’ve significantly strengthened our Employee Value Proposition by introducing a company-wide bonus scheme and ensuring transparent communication. Employee well-being is paramount; we achieved Thrive at Work accreditation in February 2024, demonstrating our commitment to mental health at work. We actively celebrate and recognise our diverse workforce through a monthly calendar of events, achieving an 88% response rate in our ED&I survey to guide improvement. Our commitment extends to the wider community through charity work, where we’ve raised over £2000 and engaged in various charitable activities throughout the year. Furthermore, we’ve built strong relationships with Job Centres nationally, offering opportunities to 15 candidates registered with work and health programmes since January 2024, helping long-term unemployed individuals get back into work. Always Ensuring Quality and Accountability Robust governance is the bedrock of safe and effective healthcare. CHEC has successfully implemented the Medical Practitioners Assurance Framework (MPAF), ensuring compliance with all its aspects. We’ve fully embedded our Freedom to Speak Up Policy and Structure, with trained guardians and champions across all sites to encourage an open culture. Patient safety is a top priority, with 98% compliance across the organisation for Level 1 patient safety training introduced in July 2024 for all patient-facing staff. Additionally, we’ve successfully implemented a company-wide compliance calendar that reflects all regulatory and legislative requirements, with adherence monitored monthly. Of the 22 identified ESG goals, CHEC has fully achieved 12 (55%), partially achieved 4 (18%), and is actively working on the remaining 6 (27%) goals. Our partnership with Sustainable Advantage, a leading ESG provider, has further validated our efforts, with CHEC attaining an “Established” maturity rating. These achievements reflect CHEC’s holistic approach to healthcare, demonstrating our dedication not only to our patients but also to our people, our communities, and our planet. We are committed to continuous improvement, driving positive change for a healthier future for all.
