The Journey to a Career with CHEC: Charlie’s Story Post Date : December 1, 2025 Career 3 minutes read Charlie Rock’s career path wasn’t always a clear one. Originally aspiring to be a holiday rep after sixth form, her journey took a turn when a close friendship led her to the world of healthcare. It all began in Blackpool where she met Antonia, now a manager at CHEC. Their enduring friendship and Antonia’s passion for her work at CHEC were the catalyst for Charlie’s career change. Impressed by Antonia’s enthusiasm, Charlie took a leap of faith, applied for a role, and hasn’t looked back. From Ground Floor to Career Progression Charlie’s journey is a powerful testament to CHEC’s commitment to internal progression. She started just over a year ago as an Optical Assistant (OA) and has already progressed significantly. Within three months of starting, she was fully signed off on her OA role, a testament to her quick learning and dedication. Her hard work paid off when an opportunity arose to cover the Education team role for the Midlands on a 12-month basis. This was a role she had expressed interest in even before knowing about the opening, showcasing the company’s responsiveness to employee ambitions. Her love for the new role is palpable; she “absolutely loves it.” The Power of Community and Support A core reason for Charlie’s success and job satisfaction is the supportive community at CHEC. She believes her experience as a former OA makes her a more relatable and effective educator for new staff. Her colleagues and team leaders, like her Manager Kirandeep and Midlands Lead Educator Angela, have been instrumental in her development. Charlie notes the constant willingness of her colleagues to explain procedures and answer questions, which has fostered an open and collaborative learning environment. This culture of mutual support is what she believes sets CHEC apart. A Career That Makes a Difference For Charlie, working at CHEC is more than just a job; it’s about making a tangible difference in people’s lives. She recounts a touching story of a patient who, after surgery, could see the true colour of her curtains, a small detail that highlights the life-changing impact of their work. This sense of purpose, combined with a team environment where everyone is passionate about their work, is what she finds most rewarding. Unlike other companies focused on targets and sales, CHEC’s mission is fundamentally about patient well-being and changing lives for the better.
